OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha non-profit community is navigating the unknown during an unprecedented pandemic that has morphed from a public health crisis to an economic crisis.
“We know we’re going to be in this for the long haul, trying to help people,” said Shawna Forsberg of the United Way of the Midlands, noting many in the community are living paycheck to paycheck and are now who she views as the “newly in need.”
Forsberg is looking at projections that show double digit unemployment lingering through the summer and perhaps even into the fall. The United Way is working on a rental and mortgage assistance fund to help those in need.
