Who: Community volunteers, Omaha Public Schools staff and members of the United Way of the Midlands (UWM) team are organizing 2,000 winter coats, hats and gloves for distribution to students.
What: During winter months, many students across the Omaha metro face the cold without essential winter gear such as coats, hats and gloves. It can impact their health, learning and overall well-being.
UWM is supporting students in Omaha Public Schools by providing apparel for young people who need it most through its inaugural “Winter Warm-Up.” District counselors and social workers have identified students who would benefit – ensuring every item purchased goes directly to a child facing winter weather challenges. All the winter gear purchased for the project will be distributed to students and their families this weekend.
Winter Warm-Up is possible thanks to Presenting Sponsor Associated Bank; Supporting Sponsors Baxter, CHI Health, Fiserv and Scheels; Community Sponsors Big Grove for Good, Google, Max I. Walker and Valmont; along with Event and In-Kind Sponsors Blackman & Associates P.C., Goodwill, Johnstone Supply, Kemps, Omaha Track and Teamsters 554.
When: Volunteers will sort coats and winter gear on Friday, November 6. This will be the media availability for those interested in covering the Winter Warm-Up event. Please RSVP by filling out this form if you plan to send a reporter. Interviews will begin at 1:15 p.m.
Where: Gifford Park Elementary School (gymnasium), 717 N 32nd St., Omaha, NE 68131
