United Way of the Midlands and Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Partner for Tornado Relief
On Tuesday, July 30, United Way of the Midlands partnered with Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium on a special evening for people directly impacted by the April storms and the first responders who sprang into action to help.
This private, invite-only event provided a unique opportunity for families and individuals affected by the storms to come together, enjoy the Zoo, and create new memories in a comforting environment.
We are deeply grateful to our generous donors who made this event possible, including Nebraska Crossing, Chesterman Co. Coca-Cola, Complete Music, the Zoo’s many gift shop partners and more.
impact in numbers
The event was a testament to resilience and community, as 611 attendees found support and connection.
The event saw a remarkable turnout, with 611 people attending the evening. This includes 485 individuals who visited a stocked store, where they could shop from a selection of clothes, hygiene products, toys and more, all at no cost to them thanks to the generosity of many partners.

17 dedicated volunteers from across the community generously donated their time to help at the event.

In times of need, the strength and unity of the community are our greatest allies.
This event was more than just an evening at the Zoo—it was a chance for families to find respite, experience community support and build connections with others who have faced similar experiences.
