One hundred and thirty-five years ago, back when Omaha and South Omaha were separate cities and Nebraska had only been a state for a touch over two decades, the Omaha World-Herald threw a party.
More than 1,000 people attended that December day, feasting on turkey, sharing joy and delighting in the community they had built.
The legacy of that December 1889 gathering became Goodfellows, one of The World-Herald’s proudest traditions and one that you, our fellow Nebraskans, have proudly upheld for years. I am honored to join this community.
