Giving From the Heart Award

The Suzanne Scott Giving from the Heart Award was created to honor Suzanne Scott. Every two years, the award is presented to a woman in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area who demonstrates the thoughtful and philanthropic qualities evident in Sue – her drive to care, inspire and act.

In June 2008, Nebraska Governor Heineman appointed Mrs. Hawks to the Behavioral Health Oversight Commission. This commission was charged with overseeing and supporting implementation of the Nebraska Behavioral Health Services Act. Mrs. Hawks served as the chair of that commission.

In previous years, Mrs. Hawks has served on the board of directors for Project Harmony and Omaha Performing Arts. She was also the chair for the Madonna School 2008 Capital Campaign and the honorary chair for Omaha Habitat for Humanity Women Build 2008.

Mrs. Hawks was born in southwestern Iowa and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, as well as an Associate of Arts Degree from Iowa Western Community College. She was an energy industry professional at Northern Natural Gas and later Tenaska from 1981 through 2002, holding various management positions. Her responsibilities ranged from managing regulatory filings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission at Northern Natural Gas to purchasing natural gas supplies and negotiating transportation arrangements at Tenaska for various Tenaska-owned power generating facilities.

Mrs. Rhonda Hawks is an exemplary recipient that embodies the very meaning of the Suzanne Scott Giving From the Heart Award and we are thrilled to honor her.
