hundreds of local volunteers to unite for united way of the midlands' day of caring event on September 12

Nearly 500 community volunteers will roll up their sleeves and come together across the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro on Friday, September 12, for United Way of the Midlands’ annual Day of Caring volunteer event.

Since 2001, Day of Caring has brought people across our community together in service. Volunteers join forces to support area nonprofits through projects like food distribution, yardwork, painting and more. It’s a powerful way to connect with one another while making a difference for local organizations. Next week, employee teams from metro companies, as well as individual volunteers, will participate in more than 38 volunteer projects across Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties.

“We are deeply grateful to our corporate partners who make it possible for employees to volunteer, and to the hundreds of individuals who share their time and talents during Day of Caring,” said Shawna Forsberg, president and CEO, United Way of the Midlands. “Together, these volunteers provide critical support to local nonprofits, helping them ensure essential services remain within reach.”

Some of the nonprofits hosting Day of Caring events include: City Sprouts, College Possible, Food Bank for the Heartland, Girls Inc., Habitat for Humanity (Council Bluffs), Kids Can Community Center, Nebraska Diaper Bank, New Visions Homeless Services (Council Bluffs), Omaha Home for Boys, Partnership for Kids, Siena Francis House and many others.

Day of Caring is possible thanks to event sponsor Google Fiber and the support of numerous nonprofit partners and community volunteers across the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro.
