UWM Celebrates National Volunteer Week With Five Good on the Go Events

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, April 21-26, United Way of the Midlands (UWM) is saying thank you to its many individual volunteers and corporate partners who graciously give their time to make a difference in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro.

UWM is also partnering with five local businesses throughout the week for Good on the Go volunteer events to create nearly 3,000 essential kits for local nonprofits. Participating organizations include:

  • April 22 – Black Hills Energy – Welcome Home Kits for NeighborGood
  • April 23 – Tenaska – Wellness Kits for Hope Center and Literacy Kits for Completely Kids
  • April 24 – Lindsay Corporation – Snack Packs for Urban League of Nebraska
  • April 25 – WoodmenLife – Welcome Home Kits for New Visions Homeless Services
  • April 26 – Werner – Snack Packs for Boys & Girls Club, Heartland Family Service and Girls Inc.

UWM’s Good on the Go program gives teams the opportunity to work together to assemble kits for people in need at their office or another site. UWM orders and ships the needed supplies, coordinates the event and works to arrange the delivery of the kits to local nonprofit agencies.

“We are so grateful to the hundreds of people who show up and provide much-needed help for our nonprofit partners and the work they do,” said Shawna Forsberg, UWM president and CEO. “Our volunteers and corporate partners truly showcase the power of community and help us make a real impact in the metro area.”

Celebrated the third full week of April, National Volunteer Week was created by Presidential Proclamation in 1974 to recognize volunteer impact and engage volunteers in service. To highlight the week, many UWM nonprofit partners are participating by offering a variety of opportunities for people to get involved.
