Many local students across the metro are lacking essential hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, clean clothes and dental products — impacting their health, learning and confidence. Helping students get access to the resources they lack allows them to build a better and brighter future for themselves and our community.
As part of its Good on the Go program, UWM partners with local school districts and raises funds for the purchase and assembly of Shine Bright hygiene kits for kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students. The kits are then distributed to students in the Omaha, Council Bluffs and Papillion La Vista school districts – as well as JAG Nebraska students across the state.
Each Shine Bright kit contains the full-size essential hygiene items kids need to feel confident so they can start the year off right.
By purchasing a Shine Bright kit for $40, you are helping provide for the essential needs of local studens, ensuring they have a positive experience this school year.
“One of our students has never had access to deodorant before.
Because of this, they had been very self conscious about their smell throughout the day.
The Shine Bright kit was able to provide some products to help this student feel more confident in their body.”
Elementary School Counselor
“A student came to school with matted hair and has not washed in over a week.
We helped her wash her hair and brush it out and she left and was smiling ear to ear saying how beautiful she felt.”
Elementary School Social Worker
“I have a student who is living on her own and was struggling to get basic supplies.
She was so grateful for this extra help and expressed much gratitude.”
High School Counselor
“One family's home caught on fire and they were forced to relocate. This family utilized the kits to help them during the time they were moving around, hotel to hotel.
The student was comfortable asking for the kits and grateful with how easily accessible it was.”
