Conagra Brands Foundation Celebrates a Successful Campaign and Awards Grant to United Way of the Midlands.
We want to take a moment to recognize our great workplace partner, Conagra Brands, for raising a grand total of $297,872.18, which includes a grant from Conagra Brands Foundation. This important grant supports UWM’s efforts to invest in a broad portfolio of community investments that address poverty and advance progress toward long-range community impact goals in the areas of basic needs, academic supports, and financial stability. This grant is the direct result of significant campaign participation by passionate Conagra Brands employees, including 1,200 employees in Omaha and 800 employees in Council Bluffs. In total, 73 percent of employees in Omaha and 60 percent of employees in Council Bluffs made a personal contribution in support of the campaign. We want to say THANK YOU to all donors who helped make this happen. Conagra Brands’ grant provides strength to UWM’s program network that spans the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area. UWM’s research shows that poverty in this area has increased over time, is often multi-generational and concentrated in specific geographical areas. Food, housing and utilities are pressing community needs, as evidenced by calls to the UWM 2-1-1 Helpline.
People struggling with food insecurity often face the choice of putting food on the table or paying for other basic needs such as utilities, medication or rent. Today, 75,450 people in Douglas County do not have regular access to food. Dozens of UWM funded programs provide food support and security for local children, seniors and families – a human service topic important to UWM and the Conagra Brands Foundation.
