Runners and walkers brave the cold for Heat the Streets event
More than 250 runners and walkers showed up to Stinson Park in Aksarben Village on Saturday, braving 10-degree weather for a cause.
Proceeds from the 12th annual Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth benefit those in the community who struggle to pay their utility bills in the winter.
“We have a warm place to go back to,” said runner Jennifer Corell of Omaha. “We’re running for people who don’t have a place to go when it’s this cold.”
Corell’s boyfriend, Steve Sambol of Omaha, turned a few heads when he crossed the finish line. It could have been because he finished first. Or maybe it was because he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
