GOOD on the Go

Hot off the presses from United Way of the Midlands: GOOD on the Go!

GOOD on the Go is a new kind of volunteer opportunity, one where our team brings a fulfilling and impactful project straight to you. If you’ve been looking for a team-building volunteer project but you aren’t sure if you have the time or energy, GOOD on the Go is just for you!

During a GOOD on the Go project, your team will work together to assemble kits for people in need at your office or another site of your choosing. United Way of the Midlands will order and transport needed supplies, coordinate the event and deliver the kits to local nonprofit agencies or agency/ies of your choice.

PLANNING YOUR GOOD ON THE GO PROJECT IN 4 EASY STEPS

Pick a kit to assemble.

Give someone the necessities they need to settle into a new home, grow their knowledge or manage their finances by selecting a kit to build! Each kit aligns with one of United Way of the Midlands’ investment areas – basic needs, education or financial stability. Kits range in price from $15 to $38. Contact our director of volunteer engagement at volunteer@uwmidlands.org for more information on individual kit contents and pricing.

Adult Hygiene Kit – Child Hygiene Kit – Baby Care Kit – Welcome Home Kit – Outreach Kit – STEM Kit – Literacy Kit – Financial Kit

Pick your event style.

Open House: The open house style allows volunteers to drop in and build kits as their schedule allows.

Shifts: Volunteers will be broken into groups of 10-30. Each group will build kits during their own designated time slot.

One Group: Select this style if you want to keep your entire group of volunteers together for a period of 60-90 minutes.

Pick your assembly method.

Buffet Line: Volunteers will walk along sets of supply tables, grabbing and placing items in their kits as they go.

Networking Tables: Each table in the room will have all the supplies needed to build an entire kit, so volunteers will stay at their designated table as they build kits.

Sit back while we do the rest.

Once you decide on a kit, event style and assembly method, UWM takes care of the rest!

Supply Delivery: UWM staff and our logistics partner will arrive before the start of your event with all the necessary supplies to unload and set up all the materials.

Presentation: If your team would like to learn more about the nonprofit(s) receiving your kits, we can arrange for an agency representative to speak during your event.

Kit Delivery: At the conclusion of the event, UWM staff members will load the assembled kits. We will work with you to arrange the delivery of the kits to local nonprofit agencies.

National Indemnity Company and Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies – Outreach Kit

We are so thankful to National Indemnity Company and Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies for providing us with a huge opportunity to engage their employees through volunteerism in their 10-floor, volunteer event. National Indemnity Company has been a United Way partner for several years, but this year they were looking for something new to incorporate into their fundraising campaign. The results? Tremendous.

  • More than 130 employees participated, all at the same time, on 10 different floors in their building.
  • Together they assembled 800 outreach kits, containing food and other necessities for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Kits were delivered immediately following assembly to three different United Way partner organizations: Together, Inc., Siena/Francis House and Community Alliance.
  • National Indemnity Company contributed $10,000 in sponsorship for this event, covering material costs, event coordination and delivery.

Kits included:

  • Bottled water

This was a true example of partnership and our community’s commitment to serving our neighbors in need. Thank you to National Indemnity Company and Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Company for this amazing and impactful event that will provide nourishing meals and a sense of hope for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Farnam Fest – Hygiene Kit

Through a generous sponsorship from Greenslate Development, United Way of the Midlands held a public GOOD on the Go event at this year’s Farnam Fest on September 21st. Local community members stopped by our tent to assemble hygiene kits that were later donated to the Women’s Center for Advancement.

Thank you to Greenslate Development for allowing such a meaningful and impactful activity to be a part of Farnam Fest!

  • Community members helped assemble 150 kits containing hygiene items, including female hygiene items, hairties and more for individuals who are looking for refuge after experiencing domestic violence and assault.
  • Kits were delivered immediately following assembly to the Women’s Center for Advancement.
  • Greenslate contributed $3,500 in sponsorship for this event, covering material costs and providing a space at the event.

Buildertrend – Hygiene Kit

We were so excited to partner with Buildertrend for our first-ever GOOD on the Go project in August. Together employees assembled hygiene kits that were delivered to five different agencies across Nebraska and Iowa. Thank you to Buildertrend for being our first GOOD on the Go partner!

  • 19 employees participated in this project, which they opted to do open house-style.
  • Together they assembled 300 hygiene kits.
  • Kits were delivered immediately following the event to five different agencies and organizations: Wakonda Elementary, OneWorld Community Health Centers, Charles Drew Health Center, Nebraska Children’s Home Society, Mills County Long Term Recovery Committee.
  • Buildertrend contributed $8,000 in sponsorship for this event, covering material costs, event coordination and delivery.

Our Board – Hygiene Kit

We knew one of the best ways to share the power of GOOD on the Go was to get our Board of Directors involved. Thank you so much to our board members who helped put together hygiene kits to benefit survivors of domestic violece and assualt at Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA).

  • Together, United Way of the Midlands board members assembled 50 hygiene kits that were delivered to Women’s Center for Advancement.
