United Way of the Midlands joins Applied Underwriters Invitational as benefiting charity partner

Nation’s premier charity golf tournament makes first-ever Omaha appearance to support local health, youth and financial literacy programs

United Way of the Midlands has been named a benefiting charity partner of the Applied Underwriters Invitational, the largest national charity golf event, as the prestigious tournament tees off for the first time on August 24 at Shadow Ridge Country Club in Omaha.

The tournament serves as a vital fundraiser to support United Way of the Midlands’ mission to unite our community’s caring spirit to build a stronger tomorrow. All tournament proceeds will go directly to support the nonprofit and their work in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro.

“We’re honored to be the local beneficiary of this world-class tournament presented by a company deeply rooted in our community,” said Shawna Forsberg, president & CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “Applied Underwriters continues to show what it means to give back locally — with heart, purpose and pride in their hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.”

Steve Menzies, chairman of Applied Underwriters commented: “Omaha is central to Applied Underwriters’ operations, and giving back to this community matters deeply to us. For more than 30 years, we’ve invested in people—within our organization and beyond—to strengthen the places where we live and work. Bringing the Applied Underwriters Invitational here is a point of pride for our company.”

In addition to the support of Title Sponsor Applied Underwriters, this year’s Invitational Tournament at Shadow Ridge is generously sponsored by Security National Bank, Union Bank & Trust, Forza Investment Group and Clear Haven Capital Management.

Limited foursomes are available for community members and business leaders who are passionate about making a difference locally while enjoying valuable networking opportunities. The event, hosted by veteran American sportscaster Jim Kelly, will feature a round of challenging golf, premium golf giveaway items, on-course competitions and prizes, lunch, a cocktail reception and plated dinner.

United Way of the Midlands focuses on four key areas of impact: health and well-being, youth opportunity, financial security and community resiliency. Recently, the organization surpassed its annual goals by delivering more than 14.7 million meals, 320,000 shelter nights, 560,000 health services and more throughout the metro area.

Widely recognized as the No. 1 charity event in golf, the Applied Underwriters Invitational is a national series of 85 tournaments held year-round at premier golf courses across the country, raising funds for more than 80 local and national charities. Foursomes compete in local tournaments for an invitation to the Invitational National Finals, scheduled to be held at the renowned Whistling Straits golf course in Wisconsin in May 2027.

Since its inception more than 35 years ago, the Invitational has hosted over 5,000 events and raised more than $316 million in net proceeds for charities nationwide. Applied Underwriters recently announced that the Invitational’s current season set a record-breaking $15.2 million raised, with more than 12,000 golfers participating in 85 tournaments, supported by over 2,500 volunteers and 2,700 corporate sponsors.

Applied Underwriters has deep roots in Omaha, where the company has spent more than three decades investing in people, neighborhoods and community institutions. That commitment is reflected most visibly in Heartwood Preserve, a mixed-use development in West Omaha, of which Applied Underwriters is the owner and main driver. Later this year, more than 800 Applied Underwriters employees will move into the company’s new campus at Heartwood.
