Celebrating National Nonprofit Day

Happy National Nonprofit Day!

It might seem like this is a day just for those of us at United Way of the Midlands or other nonprofits across the country, but National Nonprofit Day is something you should be celebrating too. Whether you’ve given time or money to a nonprofit before or not, you’ve definitely benefited from the work organizations in our community chip away at each and every day.

With the help of 40,000 donors, 700 workplaces and 3,500 volunteers, we raised over $19 million last year. These dollars helped fund 110 programs running in 60 local nonprofit agencies, providing assistance to over 140,000 people in the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metro Area. Now that’s something worth celebrating!

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the impact we are making together to build a stronger community. Here are some fast nonprofit facts:

  • There are over 400 nonprofits in the Omaha-area that are registered by the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands.
  • Almost 11 percent of people in Nebraska work at a nonprofit organization according the the National Council of Nonprofits.
  • Most nonprofits in NE tackle large issues with small budgets (less than $500,000 in assets), according to the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands.
  • Our state ranks #5 in the country for having a high percentage of people who volunteer (34%), according to WalletHub.
  • Individuals give the most to nonprofits – around 70 percent of all donations – according to a 2018 annual report from Giving USA.

Take a moment to see how living the United Way ensures your dollars are invested in programs proven to make a lasting impact right here at home:
